Eddie James Wins $15,000 Women’s Art Prize Tasmania
Women’s Art Prize Tasmania is delighted to announce the winners of the 2022 prizes.
Winning the Trawalla Foundation $15,000 Acquisitive prize is Eddie James for her work Room 18, 2021
The Judging Panel were unanimous in their choice, saying;
“In this work, Eddie James offers a multitude of narratives in a soft-focus ambiguous world. Room 18 is a strong well-conceived work with a timeless quality using the body as a disrupter in a transitory, illusory and disquieting space.”

Winning the Zonta International Area 5 Emerging $1500 Artist prize is Jo Chew for her work Growing Blind, 2022.
Again the Judging Panel were in full agreement about this work saying;
“This visually striking work subverts the idea of the “hide”; bringing it into plain view and championing the hidden strength and resilience that can be found within vulnerability. This well-executed painting by Jo Chew elicits multiple meanings and interpretations.”
