Marriott International this week announced the upcoming opening of its The Tasman Hotel in Hobart.
The property is slated to open its doors at the end of 2021 in the Tasmanian capital.
Sean Hunt, Area Vice President, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific at Marriott International, said he hoped to ‘put the world on notice to the charms of Hobart’ in Australia’s southernmost state.
“The opening of The Tasman signifies the importance of Tasmania as a global destination for luxury travellers and we are confident visitors will see this as a wish list experience for interstate and international travellers once international travel resumes,” he said.
Connecting Salamanca Place with a fronting on Murray Street, The Tasman forms part of Parliament Square, a new precinct for Hobart in the heart of the city.
The Tasman promises to offer ‘a distinct architectural experience that blends the site’s historical legacy with a striking modern vision’.
Guests have the opportunity to experience three eras of design within the 152-room hotel: from walking the history-filled hallways of the original 1840s heritage building; admiring the understated luxury of the Art Deco building; or taking in the views of the Hobart waterfront from the new glass-ensconced Pavilion building.
Tasmanian chef Massimo Mele will act as Culinary Director at the hotel’s signature restaurant, combining his passion for championing local producers with the generosity and warmth of Italian hospitality.
A cocktail bar within the original sandstone building will offer an ‘old-world bar experience reimagined for modern times’, with a cocktail menu featuring indigenous Tasmanian ingredients.
“We look forward to bringing the unique Tasmanian character to life for our guests and hope to leave them with an expanded perspective that will last beyond their visit,” said Stephen Morahan, General Manager, The Tasman.
“Our blend of personalised, genuine and anticipatory service will mark the charming, yet refined experience of a stay at The Tasman.”
