Social is proudly presented by Salamanca Arts Centre. This is an exciting opportunity for SAC to provide another active and engaged platform to connect with community. Social is a wheelchair accessible space and is the first time SAC has offered a ground floor venue for events.

Social is a space dedicated to experimentation, play and discovery for artists and audiences alike.

SAC Board member Neil Haddon reflects that art, in all its guises, is fundamentally a social event; it provides an opportunity for a society to reflect, discuss and question the values that it holds dear.

“We are delighted that our newest high profile space, positioned at the heart of these debates, will create even more opportunities for artists to share their work, reach out to new audiences, and engage them in the conversation.”

Shape & Colour – the first exhibition

Social - a New Space for Salamanca Arts Centre 3Shape & Colour brings together five artists who explore the materiality of paint and clay. With a myriad of influences that infuse the work of each artist, collectively, at the heart, is their sense of play and looseness with line and form. How this approach responds to, or informs space allows for a less-constructed, or entirely predictable outcome. Giving way to certain parameters and enabling the merging of processes, presents another realm to embrace and get lost in.

SAC Curator, Ainslie Macaulay talks about the first exhibition, Shape & Colour: “I’m excited that SAC is able to present this incredibly strong show hosting five artists who explore the materiality of paint and clay. The exhibition will showcase work by Brendan Huntley (VIC), Georgia Morgan (TAS), Martin Poppelwell (NZ), Enrique Tochez-Anderson (VIC) and Jake Walker (TAS). My hope for the space is that we will be able to continue showcasing local, national and international work to both Tasmanian and visiting audiences.”
