CHARLES and CLAIRE GILMOUR
It was a humbling experience to visit and talk with the on site forest defenders from Still Wild Still Threatened, on June 2nd 2009.
Living in such extreme conditions, it’s hard to fathom that people have maintained their protest for so long. The freezing wet conditions, the very barest of basic necessities, whilst camped on the side of the road. These people do not complain. They wear their commitment to the public’s forests as a badge of honour. They are friendly, happy souls, well spoken, politically savvy and undoubtedly very environmentally aware – they are givers, not takers.
Although there are many supporting these fine people, it broke our hearts to drive away and leave the four currently attending young people exposed to such wet and cold conditions, and warm and wet weather gear struck us as their most urgent needs.
Any donations of supplies, (i.e. warms socks, gloves, beanies, polar fleece tops and trousers, thermal wear, batteries, torches, antiseptic tee tree oil and band aids etc, etc, etc, will undoubtedly be more than appreciated.
They are doing it so hard, and all with a genuinely happy smile. And they do it for YOU, the general public and your kids and grandkids, so that they can see and experience an environment that some have taken advantage of … for far too long.
Please give these fine, warm hearted young people a helping hand.
