Tasmanian Bike Week runs 7-14 March, with Bicycle Network holding events to cater to all the family riders who have appeared following the COVID lockdowns last year.
“Whether it’s hitting one of the many mountain bike tracks across the state or idling along one of our many river and coastal trails, we’ve seen more parents and kids rolling together,” Bicycle Network spokesperson Alison Hetherington said.
“Bicycle Network is hosting free rides for families in the lead up to and during the week in recognition of all the new wheelers.
“We are starting off the week in the north west where our volunteers are running the East Devonport Family Ride in the lead-in to Bike Week on Saturday 6 March,” Hetherington said.
The main rides in Hobart are:
Women on Wheels – Sunday 7 March
Our monthly Women on Wheels ride on Sunday 7 March at Margate is a great one for mums and daughters, sisters or cousins to head out on together.
Cornelian Bay Family Ride – Saturday 13 March
A short ride completely on protected path alongside the water with a playground stop halfway through for the kids and coffee for the parents.
Kingborough Treasure Hunt – Sunday 14 March
This is always a popular one with families in the south as the kids gets to try out their mountain bikes while also puzzling over the clues in the treasure hunt on tracks in the Peter Murrell Reserve in Huntingfield.
Bike Week is celebrated across the state and the Tasmanian Bicycle Council website has a full listing of all events and rides on offer throughout the week: https://tasbicyclecouncil.org.au/bike-week/
