Michael Hodgman QC MP Shadow Attorney-General Liberal Member for Denison Wednesday 8 April 2009
LIBERAL MP for Denison Michael Hodgman said that the Premier’s dream for a New Royal Hobart Hospital on the Hobart waterfront has become a nightmare.

“It is time for State Labor to finally kill this stupid proposal off. It is like the classic Monty Python parrot sketch – no matter how much David Bartlett and Health Minister Lara Giddings want to think otherwise, the idea is dead.

The replacement of the State’s major public hospital needs vision and leadership from the State Government, not an ill-thought through political fix, designed at the time to try and distract attention from the successive criminal trials of Labor MP Bryan Green.

“The waterfront idea was dreamt up by Paul Lennon, but it has been given life by his successor David Bartlett.

“The Hobart City Council independent community survey results are damning.

More than 86 per cent of those who responded to the written survey either disagreed or strongly disagreed with Labor’s waterfront site.

And 60 per cent of respondents agree with the Liberal vision to comprehensively develop a new hospital on the current site.

And the respondents in the parallel telephone survey were overwhelmingly of the same view.

I don’t know how many times Tasmanians have to tell this arrogant 10 year old government that it has got this proposed site completely wrong.

“Mr Bartlett has spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayers’ dollars on this idea. It is time he took his responsibilities seriously, swallowed his pride, and agreed that Tasmania needs a world-class new public hospital redeveloped on the current city site,” Mr Hodgman said.
