The Tasmanian Greens today said Walker Corp is dreaming if it thinks rational reasonable Tasmanians will buy its line of big economic social and environmental benefits flowing from its destruction of the Ralphs Bay Conservation Area.
Greens Coastal Policy spokesperson Cassy O’Connor MP said the community most affected by Walker Corporation’s obnoxious proposal will see straight through the developer’s flim-flam.
“The question has to be asked, why is the developer making these outlandish untested claims during the RPDC’s assessment?”
“Why should anyone believe anything a proponent says about a proposal it is pushing?”
“Walker Corporation is engaged in a desperate sales pitch because its knows ‘the Lauderdale Quay lifestyle opportunity’ is seen by most locals, and other Tasmanians who love their coastline, as a threat.”
“It’s a sales’ job on a lemon, nothing more, nothing less.”
“The fact remains that the environment and social costs of Walker’s proposal would be profoundly negative.”
“There is no benefit to the Ralphs Bay Conservation Area, to the River Derwent, or to the shorebirds ‘protected’ under State, National and International laws and agreements. There is also no benefit to the critically endangered Spotted Handfish inside Ralphs Bay.”
“There are certainly no benefits to South Arm Peninsula residents who would be subjected to a ten-year construction hell.”
“The RPDC, experts, and the community will be the ultimate judge of Walker’s big talk,” Ms O’Connor said.
