I heard a really disturbing article on the BBC this morning about ‘colony collapse’ in honey bees, and the serious impact on the environment because bees are no longer doing as much pollinating as they used to. One of the supermarkets here (the Co-Op) which also has significant agricultural operations has stumped up £150k for research. It seems there’s no hard evidence to understand the relative impact of pesticides, mites and other factors that seem to be the cause.

Given that leatherwood honey is about the only Tasmanian product I can regularly buy in my local supermarket, and the impact of forestry operations through disturbance and pesticide use, I’m really curious about the situation in Tassy? What’s up with the bees?
