WELL, here we go again.
As dismally perennial as Christmas carol muzak in KMart, we have the Tasmanian ALP pre-election trifecta, the first two parts of which are the language of hate and division seeking to divide Tasmanians — a community which shares far more in common than it has dividing it, despite what David Llewellyn would have us believe — then the saccharine-sweet profile of leading ALP pollies like Politics-before-family Lara Giddings (who can forget the endless makeovers of Paul Lennon promising a softer, rolly-pollyer Premier?).
To which no doubt will soon be added the hoariest and most endearing ALP pre-election trick of all — the unsigned letter/email threatening “eco-terrorism”.
But could the truth be something entirely different?
The Government fearing bankruptcy and profound economic woes, much exacerbated by their incompetent administration, rushing to an early election next year?
Because although Lennon promised to legislate for fixed terms, and an election in March 2010, no such legislation has been passed, and the fortunes of the Tasmanian ALP can only worsen immeasurably over the next 15 months, and the desire to snatch victory with an early election may well prove irresistible.
