ANZ chief economist Saul Eslake has supported the TCCI’s desire to debate how to improve Tasmania’s economic performance, but has described it as an “appalling way” to seek reform. Tasmania: An Imperative for Reform, co-authored by Professor Sinclair Davidson and Julie Novak, revealed Tasmania receives 64 per cent of its total income from Commonwealth handouts and only 21 per cent of the state’s revenue is from local taxes.
