The City of Hobart is inviting the community to take part in this year’s Clean Up Kunanyi event, returning on Saturday 14 February from 10:00am to 1:00pm.

Much of kunanyi / Mount Wellington’s bushland remains pristine, but strong summit winds often whisk lightweight rubbish from cars, pockets and backpacks, scattering debris into vegetation and rocky crevices around the peak.

Last year’s event removed almost 50 kilograms of rubbish from the summit area, with all materials carefully sorted into reusables, recyclables and landfill.

The City is encouraging locals and visitors to lend a hand in protecting one of Hobart’s most loved natural places, while enjoying the mountain’s panoramic views.

Volunteers are asked to come prepared for alpine conditions with warm clothing, a hat and closed shoes.

The City will provide rubbish bags and gloves but bring your own gloves if you prefer. As the summit car park can become busy, carpooling is encouraged.

Registration tables will be set up inside the viewing shelter at the pinnacle car park, with City of Hobart Bushcare team leaders onsite to brief volunteers and guide activities.

All participants must register and attend the safety briefing before starting, as a no‑go zone will be in place for safety.

If weather conditions at the summit are too severe on 14 February, the event will be postponed to Saturday 21 February, from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
