Hobart Town Hall Comes Alive with Pride
The City of Hobart will proudly raise the Pride flag at Town Hall today, marking the opening of the TasPride Summer Festival 2026 and reaffirming the City’s commitment to being an inclusive and welcoming place for all.
The flag‑raising ceremony is both a celebration of Hobart’s LGBTIQA+ communities and an acknowledgement of their ongoing contributions to the cultural, social and civic life of the city. It also recognises that many community members continue to face discrimination and barriers to full participation.
The City of Hobart continues to advance its commitment to inclusion through policies and programs such as the LGBTIQA+ Commitment (endorsed in 2020) and the Community Inclusion and Equity Framework: Hobart – A City for All (adopted in 2021).
The TasPride Summer Festival is Tasmania’s largest LGBTIQA+ cultural festival, run by TasPride, a volunteer‑led community organisation that supports and celebrates LGBTIQA+ Tasmanians. The festival brings together LGBTIQA+ community members, families, friends and allies for a wide range of inclusive events.
“Hobart is a city that values diversity and inclusion and raising the Pride flag is a powerful symbol of our ongoing support for LGBTIQA+ communities,” Hobart Lord Mayor Councillor Anna Reynolds said.
“We stand alongside these communities in the continued push for equality and recognition.
“To be a genuinely inclusive city, we must take meaningful action to remove barriers and address systemic inequity.”
