The all-new Run Tasmania Stage Race is open for entries, offering a four-day trail running stage race through some of Tasmania’s most stunning and dramatic landscapes on 25 – 28 November 2026.
Held around Hobart and the spectacular Tasman Peninsula, the event invites runners to experience Tasmania’s wild heart by foot.
Participants can choose between two course options;
The Devil Long Course with stages ranging from 15km to 25km, designed for runners wanting to push their limits deep into Tasmania’s wildest terrain
And the Quoll Short Course offering a more accessible, but no less spectacular wilderness experience with distances between 10km and 23km.
The new event follows the same proven multi-day stage-race format that has built a loyal community of trail runners across Australia.
“We deliver the same trademark organisation, atmosphere and community, just wrapped in a wildly different setting. And we can’t wait to share it!” said Sam Maffett, Event Director of organisers Rapid Ascent.
“Run Tasmania isn’t just about racing – it’s about discovering Tasmania’s raw natural beauty, challenging yourself, and running with a community of fellow adventurers from all over Australia,” added Maffett.
Each of the four days brings new terrain, from mountains and cliffs to coastline and forest, all within reach of Hobart’s creature comforts. The journey begins on the stunning coastal trails in Kingston. Day 2 sees runners ascend into the alpine world of Kunanyi / Mount Wellington. Day 3 immerses runners into the ancient rainforest near Fortescue Bay on the Tasman Peninsula; with the grande finale on Day 4 set along the dramatic clifftop trails of Cape Raoul, followed by celebrations.
Logistics have been made easy for participants with coordinated accommodation partners, daily shuttle buses, evening functions and on-course aid stations, making it accessible for runners traveling from far and wide to attend without the need of a support crew.
“We take care of logistics so runners can focus purely on the experience. No support crew needed, no stress; just run, recover and connect each day,” said Maffett.
Run Tasmania Stage Race 2026 is supported by the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania.
Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Jane Howlett, said competitors will have the chance see some of the best of Tasmania during their stay.
“Tasmania showcases bespoke experiences in unique natural landscapes when events like these are conducted,” Howlett said.
“Events like Run Tasmania Stage Race 2026 are a massive boost for our tourism sector and local businesses. We look forward to welcoming competitors and giving them the chance to take in the world-class experiences our island offers.”
Interested participants are encouraged to enter early as organisers t have self-imposed a field limit of 300 runners to preserve the natural environment and ensure an exceptional experience for all.
“We honestly can’t wait to welcome a new set of comrades to make history with our first running stage race in Tasmania,” said Maffett.
