JBS Global Meat Holdings Pty Ltd (JBS), the Brazilian meat giant and owner of Huon Aquaculture, faced criticism from the Greens Senator Nick McKim and the Bob Brown Foundation after an ATO report showed the company paid zero corporate income tax on almost $20 billion in revenue in 2023/24.
While McKim later noted JBS’s legal head entity, Flora Green Pty Ltd, paid $95.4 million in tax, it is unclear how much tax was attributable to their aquaculture business. Both McKim and BBF condemned JBS’s business model, citing alleged animal cruelty, environmental destruction of Tasmanian waterways and the killing of dolphins, with the Bob Brown Foundation calling on Prime Minister Albanese to deem the corporation “unfit to do business in Australia.”

Huon Aquaculture Corporate Income Tax
Last week the Australian Tax Office released its 2023/24 Corporate Tax Transparency Report.
That Report showed that JBS Global Meat Holdings Pty Ltd (JBS), the owner of Huon Aquaculture, paid no corporate income tax in 2023/24 despite income of $19.7b.
It has now emerged that the legal head entity of JBS and Huon Aquaculture, Flora Green Pty Ltd, paid $95.4m in corporate income tax in 2023/24.
It is not clear how much of that is attributable to JBS, or to Huon Aquaculture.
It is essential that Flora Green Pty Ltd reveal the exact nature of its corporate relationship with JBS and Huon Aquaculture.
Tasmanians who are having their waterways and coastlines polluted by big salmon corporations, or who are appalled at the animal cruelty which underpins factory salmon farming, have a right to fully understand the corporate structures and corporate income tax paid by JBS and Huon Aquaculture.

Huon Salmon’s parent company JBS caught out paying no tax
The parent company of Huon Salmon, Brazilian meat giant JBS, has been exposed as the largest company in Australia by revenue to pay no corporate tax in 2023–24.
JBS reported an income of almost $20 billion and paid no corporate tax according to the Australian Taxation Office’s corporate tax transparency report.
Greens Senator for Tasmania Nick McKim said the revelations show how parasitic the salmon industry has become.
“Huon Salmon’s parent company pulled in nearly $20 billion and didn’t pay a cent in corporate tax. That’s taking the piss,” Senator McKim said.
“It’s nothing short of scandalous that JBS pays no corporate tax while profiting from a business model based on animal cruelty, destroying marine ecosystems, killing dolphins and polluting coastlines.”
“Tasmanians are paying the price for this parasitic industry twice over, with trashed waterways and lost revenue for schools and hospitals.”
“Working people don’t get to dodge tax. But big salmon keep lining its pockets while Labor and the Liberals let them off the hook.”
“The Greens will keep fighting to make corporations like JBS pay their fair share so we can fund housing, health, education and the services our communities rely on.”

Salmon mega-corporation JBS/Huon Aquaculture pays zero corporate tax
ATO tax data reveals that Huon Aquaculture owners, JBS, are the largest corporation in Australia by revenue to pay no corporate tax at all.
JBS as a global corporation has an environmental damage record a mile long, and are now destroying Tasmania’s waters with their factory fish farms, and not even having to pay corporate tax to do so.
Bob Brown Foundation is calling for Prime Minister Albanese to deem JBS unfit to do business in Australia given their huge environmental impact and zero contribution to Australia.
“Huon Aquaculture, owned by JBS, just killed 4 dolphins by entanglement in their factory fish farms. They let millions of their own fish suffer and die last summer. They lost RSPCA certification due to animal cruelty. They must be removed from Tasmania’s waters.” said Alistair Allan, Bob Brown Foundation’s Antarctic and Marine Campaigner.
“The atrocious JBS are Australia’s largest corporation by revenue to pay zero tax, yet shockingly, Albanese and Labor continue to back in this company that causes nothing but huge environmental damage, in the full knowledge that they aren’t even contributing to Australia. Astoundingly, Prime Minsiter Albanese rushed legislation through the parliament to protect JBS and toxic salmon companies who are sending the Maugean Skate to extinction in Macquarie Harbour.”
“Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has completed sold out Australia’s wildlife, ecosystems and public, to giant corporations like JBS who have the government so captured that they don’t even have to give a cent back to destroy our environment,” said Allan.
