Gabrielle Martin, a Hobart-based contemporary dance artist, choreographer and teacher, has been awarded the 2025 Annie Greig Scholarship, receiving $27,500 to fund a three-month intensive residency in Berlin.

Scholarship recipient to take talents across the world
The 2025 Annie Greig Scholarship recipient is set to make every moment count as she sets her eyes on Europe to refine her craft.
Hobart-based contemporary dance artist, choreographer and teacher Gabrielle Martin will receive $27,500 to further her skills.
Minister for Arts and Heritage, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the scholarship existed to support the development of young and emerging Tasmanian dancers.
“This scholarship, now in its third year, is made possible through a generous bequest of $300,000 from the late Annie Greig,” Ogilvie said.
“Annie was a Tasmanian icon and is remembered as one of our most talented dancers and choreographers. She was also a passionate advocate, educator and mentor.
“Annie’s vision continues to inspire our arts and cultural sector, with her generosity enabling Gabrielle to undertake professional development opportunities abroad.”
Gabrielle plans to participate in a three-month immersive residency in Berlin that will further develop her choreographic voice and expand her technical and conceptual skills.
“It is important to support regional artists like Gabrielle to connect with global dance networks,” Ogilvie said.
“The skills, insights and perspectives that she will bring back to Tasmania will strengthen the local arts community and contribute to the ongoing growth of Tasmania’s cultural identity.
“We are delivering for Tasmania’s arts sector by empowering our artists and in doing so we are also sharing our island’s creative talent with the world.”
Applications to the 2025 Annie Greig Dance Scholarship were independently assessed by expert peers drawn from Arts Tasmania’s Cultural and Creative Industries Register and the broader sector.
