New Labor Shadow Cabinet Revealed 6

Media release – Josh Willie MP, Labor Leader, 27 August 2025

Labor Shadow Cabinet statement

Today, I am proud to announce the new Labor Shadow Cabinet – a united, experienced, and passionate team committed to holding Premier Rockliff and his minority Liberal Government to account.

Our team will stand firm against the broken promises of the Liberals and work tirelessly to deliver positive change for Tasmania’s future.

My Deputy Leader, Janie Finlay, has already hit the ground running and will make a tremendous contribution to our team, and to Tasmania in the role.

Ella Haddad will serve as Leader of Opposition Business in the House of Assembly and will be responsible for working with other members in a collaborative manner across the chamber – a key role in the minority parliament and one Ella’s talents are well suited to.

Dean Winter will become Shadow Treasurer.

The budget is the biggest issue facing Tasmania right now, and Dean brings a strong background and experience working in economics and finance. Having previously worked in Treasury, he is well-placed to lead Labor’s response to the Government’s fiscal mismanagement and he’ll continue to be a valued and senior member of our team.

During the last Parliament Labor exposed the Spirits of Tasmania fiasco, the biggest infrastructure stuff up in Tasmania’s history and we stood up and defeated Premier Rockliff’s misguided privatisation agenda which protected vital assets and public services owned by Tasmanians.

Most importantly, we stopped the 2025-26 Barnett Budget from ever passing Parliament, which didn’t acknowledge the significant challenges facing the state’s finances or seek to address them.

Our Shadow Cabinet is ready to continue this fight, holding the Liberals accountable at every turn and offering a clear, positive alternative for Tasmania’s future.

Together, we will work hard to build a Tasmania that offers real opportunity, fairness and hope for all by changing the government at the next election.
