The Devonport Regional Gallery has announced that submissions are now open for the Little Gallery Emerging Artist Program 2026, what they say is “a bold and inspiring initiative that champions the next generation of Tasmanian creative talent.”

This annual program has become something of a launchpad for early career and emerging artists from across Tasmania.

Selected artists will be given the  opportunity to present a solo or small group exhibition in The Little Gallery, a space renowned for spotlighting fresh voices in contemporary art.

Named in honour of arts advocate Jean Thomas, founder of the first public gallery on Tasmania’s north-west coast in 1966, the Little Gallery Program continues her vision of making space for emerging artists to grow, experiment, and be seen.

“We’re passionate about creating opportunities for artists at the beginning of their journey,”

said Ellina Evans, Devonport Regional Gallery Curator.

“This program connects new voices with broad audiences and places them alongside established artists from across Tasmania and beyond. It’s where exciting careers begin.”

The 2025 program showcased the diversity and depth of local talent, including Emily-Rose Wills’ Infinite Realms (Part Two), an exploration of remembered landscapes through abstract mark-making, and Aleks Crossan’s Something To Do With When We Were Young, a nostalgic and joy-filled reflection on childhood memories.

In 2026, five artists will be selected to exhibit in The Little Gallery, with each exhibition running for 4–6 weeks. All media forms are welcome from painting, photography, sculpture and installation to digital and experimental practices.

Beyond the exhibition itself, the program offers emerging artists exposure, professional development and an opportunity to connect  with local audiences and the broader arts community.

Applications are now open via the paranaple arts centre website. The program is free to enter.
