After a four-decade career as a biochemist, over the last two decades I have been researching the human cost of war and occupation. Importantly, that human cost includes deaths from violence and imposed deprivation or direct deaths and indirect deaths. Put simply, whether a child is killed violently by bashing, shooting and bombing or dies non-violently and avoidably through imposed deprivation, the death is just as final and the perpetrator just as culpable.
My findings have been published in hundreds of typically large and exhaustively referenced articles and nine huge books (these including massively updated revisions), notably ‘Body Count. Global avoidable mortality since 1950‘. Thus global avoidable deaths from deprivation from 1950 onwards total about 1,500 million and about 70% have been under-5 year old infants. However mainstream Australia and the West in general don’t want to know about such avoidable deaths due to US wars and ‘Global North’ hegemony.
As a WW2 Jewish Holocaust-impacted, anti-racist Jewish Australian scientist and humanitarian writer I am inescapably bound by the key moral messages of the WW2 Jewish Holocaust namely zero tolerance for racism, zero tolerance for lying, bear witness and never again to anyone. This includes indigenous Palestinians.
I have been bearing witness to the plight of the Palestinians for several decades as set out in my recent book ‘Free Palestine. End Apartheid Israel, Human Rights Denial, Gaza Massacre, Child Killing, Occupation and Palestinian Genocide‘. Horrified by the starvation and violent killing in Gaza I have recently published (overseas of course) further detailed, quantitative and exhaustively referenced articles about the Gaza genocide.
As a responsible citizen I also regularly write numerous science-informed letters to Australian MPs and media (and indeed to global media) but they are very rarely published, and the huge realities are ignored. Mainstream Australian media and politicians also ignore the opinions of eminent anti-racist Jewish Australians from the first Australian-born governor-general Sir Isaac Isaacs to world-famous scholars such as Professors Peter Singer and Dennis Altman (like me, a Tasmanian brought up in Hobart).
Mainstream Australia also ignores the false defamation of anti-racist Jews critical of Israel (the very best of Jews) by fanatical Zionists who follow the false assertions of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA, to which Australia belongs) and the International Criminal Court (ICC)-sought Benjamin Netanyahu that “anti-Israel sentiment is antisemitism.”
Anti-Zionism is not antisemitism. ON the other hand, the false defamation of anti-racist Jews such as myself and the anti-racist Jewish Council of Australia is real, damaging and mainstream-tolerated anti-Jewish antisemitism.
Set out below are the titles and summaries of recent articles published by me about the Gaza Genocide as imposed famine grips the homeless surviving Gaza population. We cannot walk by on the other side.
(1) ‘Why Cowardly & Racist Australian Labor Government Won’t Apply Sanctions To Genocidal Apartheid Israel‘ – The leaders of the UK, France and Canada have declared that the situation in Gaza is intolerable and promised concrete actions and sanctions if apartheid Israel does not cease the starving and killing of children and mothers in Gaza.
However the newly-elected, US lackey and Zionist-perverted Australian Labor Government is too cowardly to even threaten Israel with sanctions over its traumatising, injuring, starving and killing of Australian citizens and their family members in Gaza. At least four Australians have been killed by Zionist Israelis in the present genocidal violence. I personally know several Palestinian Australians who have lost family members.
From data published in the leading medical journal The Lancet, by 25 April 2025 it was estimated that Gaza deaths from violence (136,000) and imposed deprivation (544,000) total 680,000. As reported by famed US analyst Ralph Nader, this carnage is under-counted by western mainstream media by a factor of 10, and it is accordingly likely that literally thousands of such relatives of Australians have been killed in Gaza. However, the cowardly Australian Labor Government that claims that its primary duty is to protect Australians won’t even act to protect Australian citizens and their family members from the genocidal Zionist Israelis. And why? Australian public figures live in fear of being ‘cancelled’ by false Zionist defamation, by routine false accusations of alleged antisemitism.
(2) ‘Anti-Asian Racism Entrenched In Newly-elected Gaza Genocide-Complicit Australian Labor Government‘ – As fellow Tasmanians are particularly well aware, white Australia has a 237-year history of genocidal racism from the commencement of the Aboriginal genocide in 1788 to the landslide victory of the Gaza genocide-complicit Labor Government in 2025.
The important Australian ‘Leading for Change‘ analysis (2018) argued that: “Our national success and prosperity depends on us getting the most from our multicultural talents.” However they revealed a shockingly huge disparity in showing that while Europeans and non-Europeans were 76% and 24%, respectively, of the Australian population, they represented 94.9% and 5.1%, respectively, of the senior leadership of Australian organisations and institutions such as the Federal Parliament, universities and Australian Stock Exchange-listed companies.
Women and men are roughly equal in numbers in the new Labor Ministry but Europeans, non-Europeans and Asians who represent 74.7%, 25.3% and 17.4% of the Australian population, respectively, are 90.5%, 9.5% and 2.4%, respectively, of the new Labor Government Ministry. Racism is as racism does.
(3) ‘Genocidally Racist Trump’s Cabinet Is Disproportionately White, Jewish, Protestant And Catholic‘ – The core ethos of humanity is kindness and truth but racism, bigotry and lying are as American as apple pie. War is the penultimate in racism and genocide the ultimate. The US has invaded over 72 countries with some of these invasions being genocidal.
The US became increasingly Zionist-subverted after apartheid Israel gained nuclear weapons by 1967.
Support for apartheid Israel (and hence for apartheid) is now a pillar of US politics, with anti-racist Jewish and non-Jewish critics of Israeli apartheid ferociously attacked, side-lined and falsely defamed as antisemitic.
Recent American Government racism and bigotry is also exposed by astonishingly disproportionate ethnic and religious under-representation and over-representation in the Biden Cabinet and the present Trump Cabinet. 32% or about one third of Biden’s Cabinet were Jewish Zionists and the remainder were moderate Christian Zionists. Yet Jews represented only 1.9% of the US population.
In Protestant Trump’s 100% Zionist Cabinet there are zero (0) Arab Americans, zero (0) Asian Americans and zero (0) First Nations American Indians. African-Americans are under-represented 0.3-fold, Hispanic Americans 0.4-fold, and women 0.7-fold. However non-Jewish and non-Hispanic White Americans are over-represented 1.3-fold, Jewish Americans 3.5-fold and Pacific Islander Americans 14-fold. Religion-wise, in Protestant Trump’s Cabinet there are zero (0) Muslims, Buddhists, other non-Christians, atheists and agnostics. However Hinduism is over-represented 4.7-fold, Judaism 4.9-fold, Catholics 1.8-fold, Protestants 2.1-fold and Christians 1.5-fold. Racism is as racism does.
(4) ‘Australian Elections: Australian Voters Deceived By US- And Zionist-perverted Mainstream Media & Politicians‘ – We love Western-style parliamentary democracy for its personal rights and freedoms and peaceful change of government. Western democracy ideally means one-person-one-vote and a properly informed electorate.
However children, who will be most impacted by the existential threats of nuclear weapons and climate change, are ignored, egregiously lied to (intellectual child abuse) and excluded from voting (Greta Thunberg: “How dare you!”). Further, Western voters are subject to massive mainstream media and politician lying by commission and omission (see above) that grossly perverts informed democracy.
Thus in the recent elections Labor (34.7% of primary votes) was re-elected to government in a landslide by (a) securing about 85% of the second preferences of the Greens (11.7% of the primary vote), and (b) disaffected Coalition voters shifting to Labor (this also costing Greens seats in the Lower House). The Greens’ slogan was ‘Keep Dutton out’ and the Coalition suffering a huge defeat meant they were extremely successful (little noticed by the mainstream commentariat).
Postscript: The inept Coalition was defeated in part over its climate change inaction. Indeed its claim of ’emissions-free nuclear’ is patently false in a carbon fuel-based economy (although the voters of weren’t informed about this). Labor had a better plan but its first major action was to approve massive expansion of gas exploitation. Yet – unknown to most Australian voters – depending on the degree of systemic gas leakage, use of gas can be dirtier atmospheric greenhouse gas-wise and global warming-wise than using coal.
