SHE Gynaecological Cancer Group have thanked generous Tasmanians for their support as they announce they raised $126,000 in February, which was Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

SHE Chair Scott Harris said it was the most successful February to date, raising record funds as well as awareness.

“Tassie turned teal, with landmarks such as the Tasman Bridge and Wrest Point lighting up teal,” he said. “Local businesses, bars, restaurants and cafes also took part.”

“We created awareness, started conversations and ultimately aimed to save lives in the fight against ovarian cancer. All funds raised will stay in Tasmania to help us build our Cancer Wellness Centre.”

The major fundraising event was the fourth annual sold-out JackJumpers teal NBL game.

“The teal game is so meaningful for the JackJumpers with Scott Harris on our board and to honour his beautiful late wife Jo,” JackJumpers CEO Christine Finnegan said.

The sale of virtual seats for the game doubled from previous years, and online and Emerald Lounge auctions also contributed much needed funds.

Major sponsor Chemist Warehouse raised the sum of $65,000 through instore donations.

“We were proud to partnered with the SHE to raise awareness and funds for women affected by ovarian cancer,” Warren Lucas from Chemist Warehouse Tasmania said.

“We set up displays in our 18 stores across the state to encourage donations, with 100 per cent of the funds going directly to the SHE.”

An additional $15,000 was donated by Bulk Nutrients, SRT and the University of Tasmania.
