More than 50 community organisations will have their capacity to provide food relief directly to their communities boosted by the 2025 grant funding round.
This has been made possible through the Tasmanian Community Food Relief Grants Program 2025 that will distribute almost $490,000 to local food relief providers across Tasmania this year.
2025 grant recipients include:
- $9,600: East Devonport Neighbourhood House to provide an extra 2,205 meals to people and families in their local community.
- $10,000: Deloraine House to deliver free meal kits in the Meander Valley that contain ingredients, a recipe card and instructions on how to make a nutritious meal.
- $7,732: Oatlands Community Association to support a non-stigmatising community pantry where people can pack their own hampers with dignity and respect.
- $10,000: GroWaverley to provide an extra 420 food hampers to help families in Waverley and Ravenswood provide three healthy meals a day.
- $10,000: Tasmania University Union to help establish food hubs to support students at Launceston, Hobart and Burnie campuses.
- $2,000: Dover and South Action Group for long-life staples to support their Emergency Food Pantry which provides food relief for residents of Dover and other communities in Tasmania’s far south.
The 2024-25 State Budget commits around $7 million to boost support for emergency food relief programs across the state while also looking to food resilience in the future.
Among the measures, food vans in Launceston, Devonport and Hobart received additional funding support and providers and stakeholders across the sector have been consulted for the development of a new whole-of-Government food relief to food resilience strategy.
