Media release – Hobart City Council Planning Authority Committee, 12 March 2025

News from tonight’s Hobart City Council Planning Authority Committee meeting

100 Pinnacle Road, Wellington Park and Strickland Avenue, South Hobart, and 220 Waterworks Road, Ridgeway (Zipline)

The Hobart City Council Planning Authority Committee has refused a development application for a tourist operation including aerial ropeway (zipline) launch tower, landing platform, storage and amenities, car parking and associated works for 100 Pinnacle Road, Wellington Park and Strickland Avenue, South Hobart, and 220 Waterworks Road, Ridgeway.

The City of Hobart Planning Authority Committee refused the zipline proposal at Wellington Park, citing its prohibition in the Recreation Zone, inconsistency with park values, impact on native vegetation, potential harm to endangered species and noise concerns affecting the area’s natural and cultural qualities.

3A Giblin Street, Lenah Valley

The Hobart City Council Planning Authority Committee has approved a development application for 26 multiple dwellings at 3A Giblin Street, Lenah Valley.

The proposal is for the construction of 26 two-storey dwellings arranged in north-south rows, with driveway access along the southern boundary. There will be 21 two-bedroom units and five three-bedroom units. One three-bedroom unit near the site frontage will have a two-car garage, while all other dwellings will have a single parking space. The development will use existing service connections.

Officer level development applications approved between 12 February and 3 March 2025

Between Hobart City Council Planning Authority Committee meetings, the City’s Planning Officers are busy reviewing a range of residential and commercial development applications for Hobart.

Since the last meeting, 16 development applications delegated to council officers were approved while 24 development applications were advertised for public input.

A reminder that the Council has a planner on duty during office hours who members of the community can call through our Customer Services to check to see whether any development or work to a garden will require planning approval.

Further information about the proposals can be found in the Planning Committee agenda here.
