Review into August 2024 severe weather event

Submissions are now open for the Network Outage Review into the August 2024 severe weather event being led independently by RDME Consulting’s Rhys Edwards.

The review will examine the response to the extreme weather experienced across the north and north-west of Tasmania in August 2024 from an electricity perspective.

Insights for improving Tasmania’s emergency response to severe weather events will be the focus of the review which is set for completion in early 2025.

The review will be supported by the Department of State Growth’s Renewables, Climate and Future Industries Tasmania (ReCFIT) division and aims to identify lessons and strengthen the state’s resilience and response capabilities for future severe weather incidents.

A consultation paper has been developed to guide the review and gather input from the community, focusing on the operational responses of TasNetworks in particular, as well as the State Emergency Service and the Tasmanian Government.

The consultation paper, which outlines these priorities, is available on the Renewables, Climate and Future Industries Tasmania website: www.recfit.tas.gov.au

Community and stakeholder input, including written submissions, will be crucial in ensuring the review captures a diverse range of experiences and insights.

The Tasmanian community and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the review by providing submissions in response to the issues raised in the consultation paper by Friday, 30 January 2025.

The completed review will be delivered to the Minister for Energy and Renewables by 31 March 2025 and made public within two weeks of its submission.
