A community group representing 350 residents in Longford have banded together to protest against the construction of a new 24-hour truck refuelling station in Longford.
Members of the group have argued the development is a result of the Liberal Government and the local council failing to act in a timely manner to protect the interests of both the residents and the historically important town.
Jacqui Lambie Network Member for Lyons, Andrew Jenner, has come out today in support of the community group.
“It’s a completely inappropriate site to have a truck refuelling station. There is only one planned entrance and exit and the road is just not wide enough for those massive trucks. It’s not safe.
“If you’ve been to Longford, you know it’s a busy road. If construction on the fuel station goes ahead without any major work done on the road it won’t be ‘if’ there’s an accident it will be ‘when’.
“It appears to me that the development application, which was initially rejected, did not take into account any of the concerns the residents had.
“I commend the tenacity of the community group in their fight to have the fuel station relocated.”
