Bridgewater Bridge update urgently needed

After a problem was identified with the construction of the Bridgewater Bridge last week, Tasmanians were told that hopefully it would all be sorted over the weekend.

With the weekend now gone, the Government needs to provide an update.

The Government declared that the project is still scheduled to finish in mid-2025 and there will be no additional cost to the state – hardly comforting considering the project is already years behind schedule and more than $200 million over budget.

With this Government’s infrastructure track record in the last week alone, Tasmanians can be forgiven for raising their eyebrows at that suggestion.

New Infrastructure Minister Kerry Vincent has an opportunity to start his tenure by being forthcoming with Tasmanians. I’m not an engineer but $800 million bridges should have pieces that fit together.

Have the Liberals bungled another critical infrastructure project?
