Call for Portal.24 entries

The Devonport Regional Gallery invites the public to register for the annual PORTAL community exhibition, which this time asks participants to consider the theme of ‘tidal’ on Recreation Day.

Capture a photo on 4 November that reflects the theme and help create a collective snapshot of life on Tasmania’s north-west coast during the holiday.

“The Portal exhibition has provided community members with a window into each other’s lives since its inception in 2013,” Visual Art Coordinator Birgitta Magnusson-Reid said.

“Recreation Day is our own special holiday in the north of Tasmania, and we know from previous Portal exhibitions just how different recreation looks to us all.” “While on first thought the theme of ‘tidal’ brings to mind the waterways around the northwest of Tasmania, it also open to highly personal interpretations, which can be far from literal.”

“We hope that the theme will result in images that are a window into moments of change and daily rhythms on a day of recreation, revealing our connections to each other and this place” Birgitta Magnusson-Reid said.

Community members are encouraged to share a moment from their day in our region that connects with the theme of ‘tidal’ on the Capture Day.

You can see the exhibition between 6 December 2024 and 11 January 2025 in the Gallery Avenue Exhibition Space at the paranaple arts centre.

The exhibition will form part of the tidal.24 festival, which coincides with the biennial tidal City of Devonport Tasmanian Art Award at Devonport Regional Gallery.

The festival connects the public with the theme of ‘tidal’ and its many contemporary interpretations and run from 6 December 2024 to 8 February 2025, in and around the Devonport area. Tidal.24 includes an Artist in Residence, art exhibitions and experiences, live music, artist talks and creative workshops for all ages.
