Hobofopo2024 folk punk festival back, with the taxpayers (USA) announced to headline

The hobos are back at it again and preparing for their eighth (or ninth if you count 2020’s semi-locked down version) annual gathering of all things folk-punk at HOBOFOPO 2024 (HOBart’s Original FOlk Punk Orgy).

For one weekend in November, nipaluna/Hobart is taken over by some of the finest acoustic punk, celtic rock, anti-folk, boozy bluegrass (and whatever other subgenre fits in between punk and folk) musicians.

Having hosted some of the biggest names in folk-punk over the last decade, including; AJJ, Days N Daze, Apes Of The State, Crywank and Pigeon Pit, this year is no exception, with the announcement of legendary act, The Taxpayers making their first visit to Australia.

The Taxpayers are a long-running experimental DIY genre-bending punk band that started in Portland, Oregon in 2007. And after an eight year hiatus, The Taxpayers are back and making their first trip down under, after selling out shows all across the USA.

Their acclaimed 2012 concept album about the rise and fall of a fictional baseball player, “God, Forgive These Bastards” was widely considered one of the best albums of the year, it features the song “I Love You Like An Alcoholic” and was even turned into a musical stage production.

Also on the HOBOFOPO first round announcement is;

Gusto Gusto to provide some lively and danceable manouche jazz and manic folk, Gusto Gusto are currently touring the UK, which includes performances at Glastonbury festival, and are preparing to be the best dressed band at a folkpunk festival.

The Stragglers will reunite from several states and countries for their annual HOBOFOPO serenade of boozy bluegrass and ratbag country folk.

Quinton Trembath will once again assemble a supergroup band to rock out with his posi-emo indie-folk-punk bangers that’ll have you toasting to life, and singing along.

Crusty Fox and The Deadmans Undies are abandoning trees-sits for the weekend to deliver some cheeky protest songs.

Alegría will represent the northern side of lutruwita/Tasmania, having been entertaining audiences at several local festivals and always getting their audiences dancing along to their lively folk-rock.

And The Dead Peasants return again like moths to a light, and we accidentally left the lights on and the front door open, again.

HOBOFOPO will take place 22-24th November, in various venues around nipaluna/Hobart. Further artist announcements and ticketing is expected in August. Keep an eye on hobofopo.com and hobofopo socials to keep up to date.
