A mature approach needed to end UTAS saga
The Jacqui Lambie Network member for Lyons, Andrew Jenner, has today implored the Liberal Government to sit down with UTAS for the benefit of Tasmania.
“Politics is getting in the way of good educational and housing outcomes,” Mr Jenner said.
“It’s untenable for the state government and Tasmania’s only university to be at war.”
The JLN implores the Premier and his senior ministers to urgently meet with UTAS leadership.
“Trading blows via the media is immature and must end. It’s time for the Premier to meet with the Vice-Chancellor to agree on a constructive way forward.
“The JLN supports the university’s vision to redevelop part of the Sandy Bay campus for affordable housing but it must be in the state’s interest.
“New homes can’t be held back by political infighting.
“We urge the Liberal Government to work with UTAS rather than introducing its contentious bill to parliament,” Mr Jenner said.”

If Mr Jenner thinks social housing is going to be built on this Sandy Bay land, then he’s dreaming.
It will be McMansions, or luxury units for the rich.

McMansion is a pejorative term for a large, “mass-produced” house in a suburban community that is marketed to the upper middle class in developed countries.
