Announcement – Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT), 20 June 2024
Congratulations to Tassie’s Top Tourism Towns winners of 2024….
Three very different but unique Tasmanian towns have taken out the top awards in the Top Tourism Towns awards program for 2024.
Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT) CEO, Amy Hills, said the entrants in this year’s awards program included some of Tasmania’s much loved and well-known destinations, along with some emerging tourism hot spots.
“We had Binalong Bay in the north-east; Richmond in the south; Queenstown out in the west; Devonport and Stanley in the north-west; and Ross in the northern midlands,” Ms Hills said.
“Each entrant produced fantastic submissions which included a short video exploring the sights and sounds of their town, along with an accompanying editorial and itinerary detailing what visitors can do when visiting their town and surrounding region.
“The Tasmanian public even had their say, with 5,000 votes cast for the People’s Choice Award,” Ms Hills said.
- In the Tiny Tourism Town category, Stanley came out with the Gold.
- In the Small Tourism Town category, Richmond claimed Gold.
- Devonport was recognised as Tassie’s Top Tourism Town.
- Stanely won the award for People’s Choice, scoring the highest number of public votes. This is the second year running the town has received this accolade.
The towns were split into three categories based on their population sizes, with their submissions judged by an expert panel.
- The Top Tourism Town Award for populations over 5,000.
- The Small Tourism Town Award for populations under 5,000, but greater than 1,500.
- The Tiny Tourism Town Award for populations under 1,500.
Ms Hills said the competition is all about promoting local pride in Tasmania’s regional towns, all the while showcasing the unique experiences that can only be found in these areas.
“It was so rewarding to see communities show up to vote for their town. It really is all about having towns recognised as a place where tourism operators, businesses, and the local community band together to make their town the very best destination it can be.”
Stanley, Richmond, and Devonport will now be judged alongside their mainland counterparts to determine Australia’s Top Tourism Towns, to be announced this September.
