Media release – Tasmanian Electoral Commission, 1 May 2024
Strong early voting ahead of Legislative Council polling day
Electors in the divisions of Elwick, Hobart and Prosser will vote for their voice in the Tasmanian Legislative Council this Saturday, 4 May.
People can cast their vote at any one of the 49 polling places that will open from 8 am to 6 pm on polling day. Details are available on the TEC website and will be published in The Mercury and The Examiner on Saturday.
In each division, electors must number at least three candidates (1-3) on their ballot paper for their vote to count.
More than 14,000 people have already cast their vote, either by post, at a pre-poll centre or by phone.
Over 4,500 postal ballot packs have been mailed to electors, with 70% already returned. It’s now too late to request a postal vote.
Need to vote early?
Any elector who can’t get to a polling place on Saturday 4 May will need to vote early.
Five pre-poll centres are open, as well as the telephone voting service for interstate and overseas electors. Details are available at tec.tas.gov.au/voting.
Early voting is available from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm each weeknight and will stay open until 6 pm on Friday 3 May.
