SRP TO ATTEND AFL HPTC PUBLIC MEETING
Due to enormous support and encouragement from the community and some councillors, Save Rosny’s Parks will attend the pro AFL High Performance Training Centre public meeting being held tomorrow.
The Save Rosny’s Parks (SRP) Group stands by its statements of yesterday that:
The Clarence City Council is deliberately pushing it’s own agenda and trying to silence any community critics. The AFL HPTC consultation was poorly promoted to keep ratepayers in the dark. Ratepayers reacted by signing a petition containing 1000 signatures to call a public meeting to question the CCC. Now the CCC has taken over the agenda to silence the many community critics who deserve to be heard.
SRP are very thankful for the support of those community minded councillors that have contacted us and reminded us of the hard work the volunteer residents have put into the petition and submissions.
SRP will participate to ensure that the Clarence community is heard, and that the AFL HPTC is located at a more appropriate site.

COUNCIL BIAS SEES COMMUNITY GROUP WITHDRAW FROM PUBLIC MEETING
The Save Rosny’s Parks Group have withdrawn from the 15 May public meeting called in response to a petition of 1000 residents of Clarence. This decision has been reluctantly taken because the Clarence City Council (CCC) have insisted on an agenda dominated by speakers in favour of an AFL High Performance Training Centre being built on our parks.
CCC has insisted that along with Council CEO Ian Nelson and Mayor Brendan Blomeley; representatives from Tasmanian Football League (TFL) and the Department of State Growth (DSG) will speak. CCC have determined that only two speakers will be permitted to speak on behalf of the petitioners.
The CCC is deliberately pushing its own agenda and trying to silence any community critics.
The meeting was intended to give the petitioners the opportunity to question the Council and state the reasons for their opposition to the HPTC in our parks.
CCC’s position is totally unreasonable, and we are compelled to withdraw from the 15 May 2024 meeting. We will instead hold our own public meeting in coming weeks where we can represent the concerns put in the original petition about the AFL HPTC taking over our parks.
