Guy Barnett, Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, 4 May 2024

East Devonport GP Clinic officially reopened

The East Devonport GP Clinic has officially reopened its doors thanks to the strong actions taken by the Tasmanian Liberal Government and the local community.

Minister for Health, Mental Health, and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, attended today’s reopening and said it was great to see this important community facility available once again.

“This is the outcome the East Devonport community deserves, and our Government has worked hard since last year and in recent months to get this done,” Minister Barnett said.

“We have worked hand-in-hand with the Devonport City Council, the community and key stakeholders and I am very pleased we have reached this positive outcome.

“I do want to thank everyone who engaged with us since last year as we’ve worked through this process, along with the wider Devonport community for their input and patience.

“The free transport arrangements that we put in place, with Mersey Community Care Association, for the East Devonport community will now cease with the reopening of the clinic.

“And while today is a positive for the local community, it’s another example of the State Government stepping up where the Federal Government has failed.

“We will continue to strongly advocate for increased Commonwealth support for general practice across the State, to ensure our communities have access to the healthcare services they expect and deserve.”
