LEGISLATE TO REDUCE WILDLIFE DEATHS
Despite the appalling ongoing carnage on our roads, which are littered with the bodies of native animals in these dry conditions, no other political party is willing to address this issue.
“Locals and tourists alike are distressed by this daily horror show,” said Jehni Thomas-Wurth, AJP candidate for Franklin, “but only the Animal Justice Party wants to create legislation that will reduce the deaths of native animals on our roads.”
“It’s not an issue with a simple solution, so it’s not surprising that government after government has consistently ignored the problem. The Animal Justice Party is committed to achieving real-world solutions.”
By designing roads with wildlife in mind, putting in place enforceable dusk to dawn speed limits in wildlife hotspots and implementing a driver education program for both existing and new drivers, we can significantly reduce the death toll.
“The Animal Justice Party also wants to see financial support for wildlife carers who are bearing the burden of caring for orphaned joeys and wildlife injured through collisions with vehicles,” said Ms Thomas-Wurth. “It is unfair that these dedicated individuals should be under personal financial stress because of their dedication and empathy for wildlife.”
