Media release – WorkSafe Tasmania, 5 February 2024
New safety findings from WorkSafe Tasmania
WorkSafe Tasmania has released new Industry Snapshots that cover injury rates, causes and trends across Tasmanian industries.
These are an engaging and easy to understand tool that workplaces can use to improve their work health and safety.
Findings of note from the newest 2022 Industry Snapshots:
There were 15% fewer injuries in 2022 compared to ten years ago, but the proportion of serious injuries (those requiring at least one week of work) has increased from 36% to 46% in that time.
Body stressing remains the most common cause of injury.
Injuries resulting from mental stress have increased by 47% in the last ten years, to 16% of all serious injuries.
Almost 1 in 4 workers seriously injured in 2022 worked in Health Care and Social Assistance.
Workplaces can read their relevant Industry Snapshot to understand causes of injury and incidents in their industries.
Employers, managers, and health and safety officers can use the data to guide how they prevent and manage these from occurring to their workers and identify opportunities for work health and safety improvements.
