4 climate acticists fined for action in Perth Tas MPs office
Today Magistrate Ken Stanton imposed the following fines plus court costs on the 4 who pleaded guilty to a charge of trespass after refusing to leave during a non violent protest at the office of Brian Mitchell MHR in Perth Tasmania on 24th November last year.
In most cases, the fines appeared to reflect the individual person’s past record of civil disobedience.
Scott Bell $400 plus costs
Debra Lynch $350 plus costs
Laura McKew $300 plus costs
Helen Hutchinson $250 plus costs.
All are from Extinction Rebellion. All are motivated by a passion to make the world a safer place for future generations by acting urgently.
They are not giving up.
Starting on 28th January, Scott Bell will be on a hunger strike demanding climate action. He and Jeff McKinnon will travel to all federal MPs’ offices around Tasmania.
