Author Dane McCormack takes readers on a personal voyage through history and memory in Exiled to Exalted.
This self-published book – set to be released this year – not only provides a biography of McCormack’s great-great-great grandfather, James Magee, but also delves into the history of Australia and Tasmania.
McCormack was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and spent a year in hospital. The toes of his right foot were taken off, he had 20 centimetres of his bowel removed, and he lost his long- and short-term memories, along with his sense of smell and taste. Because he lost his memories, McCormack embarked on a mission to recover them and wrote his autobiography. This journey reignited his old passion for writing and history, and McCormack is now working on a series of creative non-fiction history articles and books with a personal connection. Exiled to Exalted is one of them.
