Skal Hobart supporting Pennicott Foundation’s sustainability projects
Skål International Hobart is proud to support the Pennicott Foundation and its work caring for our environment.
Skål International Hobart is made up of hundreds of local business people from the tourism and hospitality sector and this year is contributing $5,000 to help the Pennicott Foundation.
Skål International Hobart President Dave Flower said Rob Pennicott was an icon of Tasmania’s tourism and hospitality sector.
“It’s hard not to love a bloke like Rob, he’s done so much for our industry so it makes sense that industry gives something back through the causes that Rob is passionate about,” Mr Flower said.
“His enthusiasm for Tasmania and its wilderness is really only matched by his commitment to protect what makes Tasmania so special.
“Each year, we raise thousands of dollars for worthwhile projects like Loui’s Van and Foodbank, and it was a no-brainer to help Rob continue to deliver a range of sustainability projects.”
The donation will help the Pennicott Foundation programs covering:
- coastal reserve and marine reserve management
- marine mammal and seabird conservation
- community awareness of and participation in coastal and marine conservation
Pennicott Foundation founder, Rob Pennicott said: “we have been delighted to partner with Skal for nearly 10 years including regular coastal clean-up activities with the tourism industry to remove tonnes of flotsam from local beaches.
“We thank Skal for its financial contribution to our conservation program which supports important island restoration initiatives to save breeding seabirds and rebuild island ecosystems through the eradication of introduced pests and weeds. Current projects include surveying short-tailed shearwaters on Maatsuyker Island which is vital for seabird conservation. Resources are also currently being directed to weed removal from Iona/George Rocks, St Helens Island and Chalky Island in northern Tasmania and Kanowna Island in Bass Strait.”
