Media release – Jeremy Rockliff, Premier, 3 October 2023
Getting on with the job for Tasmanians
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is focussed on doing what matters for Tasmanians.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said to do that – and for Tasmanians to have certainty about their future – Elise Archer must tell Tasmanians what she plans to do.
“In terms of what I will do, I want to be clear: The only way Parliament resumes is if Ms Archer resigns as she initially committed, or she provides a written guarantee of confidence and supply,” the Premier said.
“We will not be returning to Parliament unless either of these two actions occurs.
“All Tasmanians deserve certainty about the future of their Government as soon as possible.”

What are Michael Ferguson’s intentions?
The weak, unstable, Rockliff minority government’s latest lurch into crisis looks to have stirred up Liberal leadership tensions as the Premier’s support evaporates.
Jeremy Rockliff’s chances of coming back to the Parliament as Premier on 17 October are extremely slim.
Michael Ferguson was there when Rockliff announced Elise Archer’s sacking, even making a big song and dance about taking on the role of Acting Attorney General – a role which lasted a full two days.
However since Ms Archer and John Tucker made it clear that Rockliff wasn’t up to the top job, the Premier’s ‘loyal deputy’ has been nowhere to be seen.
John Tucker’s radio interview on ABC Mornings suggested he was open to re-joining a Ferguson Liberal Government. Have those discussions commenced?
If the Deputy Premier is planning a leadership tilt, he owes it to all Tasmanians to make his intentions clear.
Rockliff’s days are numbered as crossbench throws support behind Ferguson
Jeremy Rockliff’s leadership is terminal.
The independent Liberals are walking away from their commitments of supply and confidence and calling for a change in leadership.
Mr Rockliff has no viable route to continue as Premier.
Elise Archer doesn’t want him. John Tucker doesn’t want him. Lara Alexander doesn’t want him.
It is only a matter of time before Michael Ferguson makes his move.
Jeremy Rockliff no longer commands the confidence of the House. He is finished.
