New Visitor Website for Tassie’s Big Trees Launched
Today is the official launch of the exciting new Big Tree State website (www.bigtreestate.com).
The website, created by environmental group The Tree Projects, is a one stop place where the public can access detailed information on Tasmania’s giant trees and the best places to visit them. This is the first website that is dedicated to providing information and advice on how and where to visit Tasmania’s premiere giant tree sites.
“There is very little information out there on how and where to visit Tasmania’s epic trees,” says Steve Pearce, co-founder of The Tree Projects and the creator of the Big Tree State. “Tasmania has some of the best trees in the world, yet we hardly publicise this fact. We want to encourage Tasmanians and visitors alike to go out and experience our incredible forests. They are truely a wonder to behold.”
The Big Tree State website has an emphasis on safety and minimising impact to trees, with Visitor Best Practice guidelines and tips on preventing Phytophthora spread. “We really want to encourage people to take care of the forest and provide as little impact as possible,” says Pearce.
The Big Tree State is part of a broader campaign by The Tree Projects which aims to raise the profile of Tasmania’s giant trees and to show that alternative economies like tourism are viable for regional communities. A report was launched six weeks ago which showed the tourism potential of eight big tree visitor sites in Tasmania.
