Let’s Kill Agatha Christie brings murder and mayhem to the Playhouse!
Hobart audiences love an Agatha Christie mystery; they always have. In fact, the whole world loves them, with Christie’s ‘The Mousetrap’ being the longest-running show in history!
So why produce a play called ‘Let’s Kill Agatha Christie’?
Written by English screenwriter and producer Anthony Hinds after he retired from making horror movies, ‘Let’s Kill Agatha Christie’ is a comedy thriller that pays homage to Christie’s popular works and brings a new take on the murder mystery genre.
Full of fading film stars and self-made millionaires and evoking the style of playwright Ben Travers’ 1930s farces, ‘Let’s Kill Agatha Christie‘ brings murder and mystery mixed with a liberal dose of humour.
The two-hour play follows a wannabe author named Prudence. Prudence fancies herself as the new Agatha Christie, but sadly, all her crime stories are disasters. She decides the only way to write a foolproof plot is to stage a murder, so she invites her three worst enemies over for the weekend and gives them all a good reason to kill her.
Things, it’s fair to say, go downhill from there!
Directed by Jenifa Dwyer, ‘Let’s Kill Agatha Christie’ is sure to provide a fun and entertaining night out for all.
The talented cast of local performers includes Laura White, Pip Tyrrell, Leigh Faulkner, David Bloomfield, Kyle Enniss, Camilla Best, Tay Lowry, Brendan Flynn and Jonty Hilton, with set and graphic design by Carolyn Whamond and lighting design by Hayden Green.
The Hobart Repertory Theatre Society presents ‘Let’s Kill Agatha Christie’ at the Playhouse Theatre until 12 August, with 7:30 pm shows Wednesday to Saturday, and one matinee performance remaining at 2:00 pm Saturday 12 August. Tickets are available from playhouse.org.au, with some available to purchase from the box office prior to each show.
