Tasmanian Times often receives invitations from publishers to review new books. Usually this is in advance of first publication, although sometimes it’s for updated editions of existing books.

Publishers usually offer us a free copy, either printed or digital, to review.

If you’d like to write reviews for us, we’d be happy to line up some books for you. If you prefer hard copies, we can have them posted direct to you. Yes, you get to keep them.

Book subjects vary incredibly widely across fiction and non-fiction. In order of interest we are looking to publish reviews on books about:

  • almost any Tasmanian subjects, by any author
  • almost any subject, by a Tasmanian author
  • a major national or international issue or personality that is likely to have strong resonance in Tasmania

Those first two categories are fairly straightforward. The third isn’t, and is a matter for our judgement. For example we might not publish a review of a book about the history of AFL grand finals … but we might be interested in a book about corruption in the AFL, given the current stadium issue in Tasmania.

There is a book coming out soon (see below) about the Voice to Parliament referendum. If you get in quickly you can be the one to review it!

For a review we would like a well-written summary of between 300 and 1000 words that would help a reader understand if that book is for them.

Please contact us if you are interested in doing some book reviews. You should specify which subject areas you are interested in.
