This week the Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association and Eat Well Tasmania have partnered together to support Men’s Health Week 2023.

In partnership with Eat Well Tasmania the Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association held a Southern Network Meeting by hosting a Plate With A Mate event where members of southern sheds gathered to connect, engage and focus on their health and well-being as part of Men’s Health Week 2023.

Men’s Health Week takes place from 12 – 18 June 2023 and is celebrated every year around this time.  This year’s theme is ‘Healthy Habits’.  To celebrate this theme the TMSA has partnered with EWT to encourage members to connect with one another and consider their healthy habits.

Wendy Kennedy, Executive Officer of Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association said “this week is an important week for our entire network to focus on our health and wellbeing.  We are excited to partner with Eat Well’s Plate with a Mate campaign and we’ll be encouraging all our members to connect and share a healthy plate together”.  We know our network of 71 sheds play an important role 365 days a year by providing a community where men can come together and connect in a safe, welcoming environment”.

Carl Saunder, State Manager of Eat Well Tasmania said “Our Plate with a Mate campaign is designed for members of the community to connect with one another, focus on your individual health and wellbeing by sharing and enjoying a healthier meal alternative”.

We know the power food has to connect communities and the important role a healthier meal can play in improving our mental health and wellbeing.  Saunder said “we are excited to partner with the TMSA as we know the importance of social connections for men and the power food has to connect us and what we are suggesting as part of our Plate With a Mate campaign is let’s connect and enjoy a healthier meal together”.

Saunder mentioned “today is not only an opportunity to connect and enjoy some amazing local, fresh healthy produce, but we are also looking forward to working with the TMSA on embedding healthier habits that can become apart of members everyday health journey”.

Kennedy added “we’ll be looking to find ways for our network to host more Plate with a Mate type initiatives throughout the year as we look to improve the health and wellbeing of our members across the state”.
