A New Tasmanian Flag – Jason Wheatley Design

To summarise, Tasmanian Times is running a competition for a new state flag. If you have an idea for a design, please send it in! The latest design received is as shown above, by Jason Wheatley.
I chose to feature the Tasmanian devil on this flag because it’s something we can be proud of, trying to help the species recently with its facial tumour disease problem.
The Tasmanian tiger and native Aboriginal options feel a bit embarrassing knowing we were the cause of their demise.
I’ve tried adding colour that resembles some nice natural scenery tones, the blue being our clean oceans and green the rich forests.
I feel the most positive thing about Tasmania is its natural beauty which is sadly something time and growth moving forward eventually change.
Our underdeveloped state is what makes Tasmania such a great place in the world; we should strive to keep it this way.
