Designs progressing on three more park and ride facilities for Hobart

The Rockliff Liberal Government is continuing to improve public transport with detailed design progressing on three new park and ride facilities in Hobart.

The new park and rides will be located on Pass Road, Rokeby, Claremont Link Road, Claremont and Fenton Street, Midway Point.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael Ferguson, said the developments are a key aspect of the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s $81.5 million election commitment to transform public transport, providing more transport options to meet the needs of Hobart’s major residential centres.

“The new facilities will have convenient modern amenities, such as all-weather bus shelters and secure bicycle storage, and provide ample parking, including accessible spaces,” Mr Ferguson said.

“As the city continues to grow, it is vital that we provide the infrastructure and services needed to ensure people can get where they want to go safely and efficiently. And that’s exactly what we’re doing.

“These facilities make catching the bus easier and more comfortable, and lead to increased public transport patronage which will help ease traffic congestion.”

The Rockliff Liberal Government has worked with local councils in deciding the best location to service their areas.

The facilities will also be designed to integrate with existing transport infrastructure including pedestrian and cycle pathways and existing and future bus routes.

“These designs are well advanced and we plan to start construction on the Midway Point park and ride late this year,” Mr Ferguson added.

“Construction at Claremont and Rokeby is scheduled to start mid-2024.”

Two park and ride facilities to serve the fast-growing Kingborough area were opened at Huntingfield and Firthside last year.

“The three new facilities will improve travel options for more people in fast-growing areas and provide an attractive and viable alternative to private car use,” Mr Ferguson said.

“They are another step in the Rockliff Liberal Government’s plan to provide Hobart with a modern, diverse and integrated transport system that will keep Hobart moving.”
