Victoria is known to host some of the highest-grade, lowest-cost gold deposits globally, and north-east Tasmania is showing similar potential.

The Victorian goldfields and north-east Tasmania boast geological similarities, both hosting orogenic and intrusion-related gold systems (IRGS). Both gold regions lie on the Western Lachlan Orogen – a subdivision of the Lachlan Fold Belt that has delivered plenty of gold over the years.

While Victoria continues to be a hive of exploration, Tasmania has been less explored in recent years.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, while $201.3 million was spent on Victorian mineral exploration in 2022, only $40.6 million was spent on Tasmania last year. And this is considering Tasmania at large, rather than north-east Tasmania specifically.

Flynn Gold has been an early-mover in north-east Tasmania, establishing a suite of projects east of the Tamar River, including two priorities: Golden Ridge and Portland.
