I sent this email to all Waratah-Wynyard councillors and relevant politicians on 11 October:

Unbelievable  – listen to the recording of the Waratah/Wynyard Candidates Forum from about the 1-hour 19-minute time slot when a certain candidate for mayor expresses his view about the lack of support from the Waratah Community regarding the need to maintain the Warath Reservoir from decommissioning by TasWater.

In summary he stated :

“I asked that the community needed to have a plan for the Reservoir and hold a community meeting to discuss. There was a meeting of only 10 people of which 6 came from the platypus group of Fernglade and no plan existed. As a result, I concluded there was no community support, and the council had no option but to allow the decommissioning of the dam.”

TOTALLY INCORRECT. There were many community meetings and almost always with over 50 people in attendance and the Friends of the Waratah Group had over 90 members. The community was in total support and the Council and TasWater failed in its obligation.

The candidate should now withdraw

Since then I have had a detailed conversation with the Warath local who asked the question to ‘KBW’ which resulted in this response:-

The truth was that the dam issue came after the workshops and formation of the Community Board and as such was treated as a separate issue which I saw as being serious enough to form a separate committee – The Friends of the Waratah Reservoir.

As a side note the board was supposed to have community nominations but was formed by Kevin by picking who he wanted with one representative from the now defunct tourism group. We had support from all the businesses in town, local politicians, walking groups, fishing groups, the Waratah-Wynyard council (excluding Kevin}, and the General Manager who are all on record in the media supporting us and most importantly the townspeople.

He has always been dismissive of our plight and one wonders for his own agenda?

I had the question asked at the candidate forum as I still can’t understand why for someone who you would think that being chair of the board would be supportive of the dam retention and to say we had no support is either delusional or a very measured lie that if you say it often enough it will become the truth.

The other question is that the town was awarded $300K as compensation for losing the dam. Is this the carrot that he wanted to forward his own agenda as at the very least the community should have had a say in what it was used for. It doesn’t matter to me if it is used for the Board’s activities, but we should have had a say as it was our fight that secured it. Please feel free to use this info as I believe these are the main points.

Also,

There were numerous plans for the Reservoir created by the Friends of the Reservoir Group some posted on TT: Waratah Renewable Hub – Tasmanian Times

In Summary

Kevin Bloody Wilson lied in every aspect and should stand down as a representative of Waratah if he gets elected councillor and/or mayor.

Dare I suggest that nobody in Waratah likes KBW and he has done zip zero zilch nada for the community.

We’ve been dilligaffed … this song says it all:
