Cam River Bridge update – 30 October 2022
Work on the Cam River Bridge continues today, with formwork installation complete and concrete pouring underway, with the hope of opening to two lanes of traffic this week.
The concrete will infill between the pier columns, providing additional strength. The concrete pour will be done in two stages, with the first occurring early this afternoon. The first pour will need to set before the second can start. Once both stages are complete, the concrete will need time to set to the required strength before the bridge can be returned to two lanes.
Our highest priority remains the safety of our workers and road users, and there may be periods where work is paused due toc hanged weather, swell and tide conditions.
Workers continue to manage and remove debris in the river, to maintain safety and minimise disruption to the site.
Ongoing monitoring, including tilt meters, have been installed and will remain in place until the new bridge has been completed.
We will continue to provide our traffic controllers with the advice, support, and resources they need to keep traffic moving and intersections clear and operating appropriately.
Bus services across the Cam River Bridge will continue to be free while the bridge is operating with one lane.
You are encouraged to use these services while repair work continues on the bridge. This will help to reduce the number of vehicles queuing and decrease travel times for everyone.
Please allow for delays of a minimum of 45 minutes and longer, particularly in peak times. We recommend avoiding peak times or avoiding travel across the bridge if that is an option for you.
Please remember to look out for emergency service vehicles and let them pass safely. Keep an eye out for any changes to traffic conditions or speed limits that may be required to keep people safe while we work.
