Young leader Esther a first for Tassie
TasWater Human Resources Officer Esther Cooper is one of six successful applicants, and the first Tasmanian, to be awarded a place in a national youth water industry leadership program.
Now in its fifth year, the Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) Young Utility Leader Program attracted numerous applicants from TasWater and a field of more than 50 applicants from across Australia.
WSAA is the peak industry body representing the urban water industry, with members that provide water and sewerage services to more than 24 million customers in Australia and New Zealand.
Esther said the news has made her incredibly excited and a bit overwhelmed.
“It is really exciting because it is such a great opportunity and there is so much to learn,” Esther said.
“In a way it is like starting a new job, there will be a lot to take in, and I am really looking forward to it. Not just the chance to learn from leaders in our industry, but to work with the other participants from across Australia.
“I would not have had this opportunity if I was not part of the TasWater team, and I am very proud to be the first successful applicant from Tasmania.”
The program is an opportunity for exposure to senior leaders within the urban water sector. Esther will work with managing directors, directors and executives on WSAA board committees, leadership events and initiatives. The program includes tailored leadership coaching to help successful applicants to understand their strengths, opportunities for improvement and leadership values.
This level of professional development will be an asset not just for Esther, but for her colleagues, TasWater, and Tasmania.
