Housing Rally for Human Rights

This Saturday morning on Parliament Lawns, nipaluna/Hobart, from 10-11am speakers from the Housing Alliance, Housing With Dignity Group, R.I.O.T (Renters In Obnoxious Tenancies) and more community groups will gather to Rally for Housing As A Human Right and continue their petition for the Tasmanian Government to implement immediate changes that will protect renters, build world class public housing and end homelessness permanently.

Speaker Saph Grant from Women With Disabilities Australia spoke candidly saying: “Tasmanian renters deserve to live with dignity, without the anxiety and fear of being homeless at any time hanging over our heads.”

The rally will take place before the final month of the petition to the Tasmanian House of Assembly begins in May. The organisers encourage everybody to attend if well and able, follow and share online, swap stories and ideas, and hear more about the housing problems and solutions facing the state.

Matt Haubrick from the Housing Alliance stated: “We hope the Tasmanian Government will listen to the demands of their voters, but if they don’t we’re fully prepared to ramp up our efforts to help our communities build a democratically owned and operated system of housing that ensures a home for every Tasmanian now and always.”
