Public Transport needed to Ease Pain of Rising Petrol Prices

With petrol prices now over $2.30 a litre in some parts of the state the Gutwein Government must take immediate action to ease this cost of living pressure.

Public transport should be part of the plan to ease the pain from soaring petrol prices, yet the government’s underinvestment in public transport has seen services cut, forcing more Tasmanians to rely on their cars.

The government must now consider options to get more people using public transport as an alternative for those struggling with skyrocketing petrol prices.

Providing more affordable public transport will entice people back to public transport and help ease the pinch.

The government should trial more affordable public transport for concession groups or other fare options for off peak travel.

This is a practical way that the government can ease cost of living strain.

Runaway petrol prices and empty buses prove that this government can’t get the basics right and its hurting families hip pocket.
