Derwent Valley Council recount announced
Yesterday afternoon, the Derwent Valley Council General Manager advised the Commissioner that Councillor Frank Pearce no longer resides in Tasmania and is no longer eligible to be a Councillor under Schedule 5 of the Local Government Act 1993.
Due to the current Derwent Valley Council by-elections, the Commissioner will not write to eligible candidates until Friday 25 February.
Consent must be received by 12noon, Monday 7 March 2022. The recount will commence shortly afterwards.
The person elected will serve until the 2022 ordinary elections expected to be held in September / October.
Period to fill casual vacancies ending soon.
Thursday 3 March 2022 commences the 6-month period prior to the Notice of Election for the 2022 statewide Local Government Elections. Under the Local Government Act 1993, no councillor or mayor vacancies are filled during this period, unless a Council cannot establish a quorum.
